Born in Germany, he trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics at the famous Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. Much of his work was in theoretical physics where he worked to solve many of physics' problems in an attempt to achieve a unified field theory. In 1921 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his services to Theoretical Physics and his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. He is famous for his theories of relativity which showed how acceleration can affect space and time.
